Waar gaat Empire over?

Lucious Lyon is de koning van hip-hop. Een uiterst talentvolle artiest, de CEO van Empire Entertainment en voormalig straatboef, zijn heerschappij is al jaren onbetwist. Dit alles verandert wanneer hij leert dat hij een ziekte heeft die hem kreupel en onbekwaam maakt en dat in slechts drie jaar. De klok tikt en hij moet één van zijn drie zonen klaarstomen om de kroon over te nemen en dat zonder zijn reeds gebroken gezin te vernietigen.
